BALIKPAPAN – DM, Kecelakaan lalu lintas maut terjadi di Lampu Merah Muara Rapak, Balikpapan, Kalimantan Timur, pada Jumat, (21/1/2022) pagi tadi.
Kejadian itu melibatkan satu unit truk tronton dengan jumlah kendaraan roda empat dan roda dua hingga menimbulkan banyak korban.
Dari data terbaru yang dirilis Kepolisian Daerah Kaltim, empat orang dilaporkan meninggal akibat kecelakaan beruntun itu. Satu orang masih dalam kondisi kritis. Sedangkan yang luka-luka bertambah jumlahnya menjadi 21 orang. Sebelumnya, polisi menuturkan bahwa kecelakaan itu mengakibatkan lima orang meninggal dunia.
Polisi juga menyebutkan bahwa, dalam insiden itu tercatat satu orang masih mendapat perawatan karena sedang kritis. Kemudian, ada 21 orang lain yang mengalami luka-luka
“Data sementara ada 4 orang meninggal dunia. Satu orang yang ditangani karena kritis, dan 21 orang lainnya luka-luka,” ujar Kabid Humas Polda Kaltim, Kombes Yusuf Sutejo, dalam keterangannya siang tadi.
Dia menjelaskan, dari hasil penelusuran awal dan olah TKP petugas di lapangan, kecelakaan tersebut terjadi saat ada antrean kendaraan di lampu merah Simpang Muara Rapak.
Disitu, dari arah belakang truk tronton tersebut melaju dengan mengangkut kapur pembersih air seberat 20 ton.
“Penelusuran awal di TKP dan olah TKP petugas di lapangan itu awalnya saat terjadi antrean di lampu merah Simpang Rampak itu, dari arah belakang meluncur sebuah truk tronton menghantam sejumlah kendaraan di depannya, ” kata Yusuf.
Komisaris besar polisi ini juga menyebut, bahwa dugaan kuat penyebab utama kecelakaan ini karena kondisi geografis jalan yang menurun, ditambah lagi dengan kondisi truk yang mengalami rem blong menjadi penyebab utama.
“Karena kondisi geografis jalan tersebut menurun dan kondisi truk tronton tersebut secara teknik, hasil pemeriksaan awal kita remnya blong,” terang Yusuf.
Lebih jauh, Kombes Yusuf menambahkan, bahwa sopir truk sempat merusaha menurunkan kecepatan gigi dengan menggunakan engine brake. Namun karena laju kendaraan sudah tak mampu lagi dihentikan.
“Keterangan supir truk tronton, pompa angin rem tidak berfungsi sehingga menyebabkan terjadinya rem blong,” tuturnya.
Saat ini, sopir truk yang menyebabkan terjadinya kecelakaan beruntun di Balikpapan untuk sementara diamankan oleh Polda Kaltim guna menjalani proses pemeriksaan lebih lanjut.
Sebelumnya telah viral beredar video tabrakan beruntun akibat kendaraan berat itu hilang kendali.
Terlihat dalam suasana pagi, saat jumlah kendaraan berhenti di simpang Rapak. Tiba-tiba dari bukit terlihat truk tronton warna merah hilang kendali, melaju kencang menghantam semua mobil dan sepeda motor di atas.
Usai kejadian itu, sejumlah kendaraan pun terlihat berhamburan bersamanya di jalan raya tersebut.
